One of the classic problems in the forest, La Coeur draws a pure line straight up through a striking heart-shaped hold in the middle of a beautiful wall. Climbers can't help but want to climb it, but they soon discover that the heart is a cruel lover. Deviously crimpy, the holds on the lobes of the heart bend fingers back painfully like crap plastic from the eighties. And they're sharp to boot. If you're short, the task is even more daunting since there are no holds to speak of between the heart and the shallow finger slot dangling below the lip. The problem has been deemed by some to be impossibly hard if you're under a minimum height simply because there's no other way around. Robyn dug deep within her bag of tricks today and climbed la coeur. She used the same beta and holds as everyone else. The nearest we can figure is that she somehow discovered how to become stretcheable. - rp

After spending the day at the D'Orsay, we walked out into the Parisian night and found a bit more art to look at. Neon sign courtesy of a street art installation, photo courtesy of Randy Puro. - ch

Europeans and Frenchies in general are well known for their fine food and often as well for their small portions. That is at least compared to the United States - home of the ever popular Big Gulp. Suffice it to say that "Would you like to super size that?" does not really have a translation into french. However our dinner on this night might very well put to shame any vegas all you can eat buffett or texan 10 pound steak challenge. The Menu at La Dame Joanne includes a beginner salad, served in what appears to be a bowl big enough for the whole table, a crudites plate, a huge casserole dish of home made terrine and then bowles of fresh veggie delectables, again served in a "take what you can eat manner".... and take we did. Then of course the main dish came, along with plates of potatoes and french fries. It was impossible to resist eating all of the meal as well as dipping the fries into the leftover heavy cream sauces. It was evident from all ends of the table that people were reaching their breaking point, but who can pass up homemade chocolate mousse and creme caramel? Did I mention that the menu also came with a fromage (cheese) plate at the end of dinner? We all waddled out of the restuarant completely overloaded. Severly needing an outlet that might allow the food in our stomachs to digest, we headed to Elephant and had a night session of wine tasting and bouldering by lantern. The end of the night ended up with 10 people in the top branches of a perfectly climbable pine tree. It was a miracle none of the branches broke under the weight. - ch
